A Test Suite for Chess Programs
نویسندگان
چکیده
| We describe a suite of 5500 test positions for testing chess playing programs. They are available as pub/wds/ChessTest.tar.Z by anonymous ftp to external.NJ.NEC.COM. Almost all of these positions are unoriginal and were obtained by scanning in diagrams from chessbooks with an optical scanner. Gnuchess 4.0, at one minute per move on a 50 MHz MIPS R4000, scores 16-71% on our testtles. We describe the software we wrote to accomplish the scanning task. If you take the test, please send us (Email: [email protected]) the results, the testee's name and estimated USCF rating, and notify us of any corrections in the test set.

متن کاملThe Bratko-Kopec Test Revisited
The twenty-four positions of the Bratko-Kopec test (Kopec and Bratko, 1982) represent one of several attempts to quantify the playing strength of chess computers and human subjects. Although one may disagree with the choice of test set, question its adequacy and completeness, and so on, the fact remains that the designers of computer chess programs still do not have an acceptable means of estim...
متن کاملMonte Carlo Chess
MCC, a UCT based Chess engine, was created in order to test the performance of Monte-Carlo Tree Search for the game of Chess. Mainly by modifications that increase the accuracy of the simulation strategy, the performance of the base implementation was improved by approximately 864 Elo. MCC performed still too bad to compete with Minimax based chess programs or to seriously suffer from search tr...
متن کاملKnowledge Discovery in Chess Databases: A Research Proposal
In this paper we argue that chess databases have a significant potential as a test-bed for techniques in the area of Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD). Conversely, we think that research in Artificial Intelligence has not yet come up with reasonable solutions for the knowledge representation and reasoning problems that are posed by knowledgebased computer chess programs, and consequently a...
متن کاملCHESS: A Systematic Testing Tool for Concurrent Software
Concurrency is used pervasively in the development of large systems programs. However, concurrent programming is difficult because of the possibility of unexpected interference among concurrently executing tasks. Such interference often results in “Heisenbugs” that appear rarely and are extremely difficult to reproduce and debug. Stress testing, in which the system is run under heavy load for a...
